Odisha Govt Plans Fast-Track Courts for Crimes Against Women | ଓଡ଼ିଶା ସରକାରର ନୂତନ ପଦକ୍ଷେପ


Cuttack, Oct 19 (PTI): The Odisha government (ଓଡ଼ିଶା ସରକାର) has started discussions with High Court officials to establish fast-track courts in various districts. This initiative aims to speed up trials in cases related to crimes against women and children, ensuring ନ୍ୟାୟ ଦେବାର ଗତି ବଢିବ (faster justice delivery).

State Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan made this announcement during the Odisha Police Duty Meet in Cuttack on Sunday.


The move comes after a steady rise in women-related crime cases and the need to reduce pending trials.
Odisha government believes that setting up fast-track courts will:

  • Ensure quick justice (ତୁରନ୍ତ ନ୍ୟାୟ) for victims.

  • Reduce backlog of cases in district courts.

  • Strengthen criminal justice system with modern legal procedures.

The Law Minister highlighted that the government is also working closely with judicial officers to make the justice process more efficient and transparent.


With these new courts, Odisha’s legal infrastructure will get a major boost.
It will help:

  • Protect the rights of women, children, and vulnerable groups.

  • Encourage victims to come forward without fear.

  • Improve public trust (ଲୋକଙ୍କ ଭରସା) in the justice system.

The Minister also mentioned that the state has already appointed additional public prosecutors in all districts to speed up case disposal.


The Odisha Police Department is being modernised with:

  • New training modules for police officers.

  • Workshops to improve investigation and legal knowledge.

  • Crime Branch to develop skill-based training programs across the state.

DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurania said that mindset change and professional knowledge are key to creating a smart and sensitive police force for a developed Odisha (ଉନ୍ନତ ଓଡ଼ିଶା).



The government’s focus on fast-track courts reflects its strong commitment to speedy justice and women safety (ମହିଳା ସୁରକ୍ଷା).
Such steps will not only strengthen law and order but also contribute to building a safe, fair, and modern Odisha.
